Writer

While my passion is picture books, I challenged myself to write in every genre for a year. It was challenging but so rewarding. It brought out ideas and language that I didn’t know I had in me. Along the way, I came up with new book ideas, poetry, a YA novel, and a memoir.

My memoir, “A Blessing in Disguise” was published in December of 2021. It is part of an anthology to inspire others, Tales2Inspire, The Moonstone Collection, Turning the Page, Book 2. You can purchase it through Amazon or directly here.

I won the “Best Pitch Award” at a conference with a Middle-Grade Science Fiction book. This book is complete and I am currently looking for an agent to represent it.

One of my poems won a writing contest with Atlanta Writers Club. It had to include the word, “kudzu”, and here is what came to me:

Lucid consciousness banishes you. Sober clarity screams, “No more”. I drift asleep, just as the night sky awakens. There you are. Creeping, climbing into my thoughts. Like kudzu, invasive, unwanted. Coiling around every bit of me. Until I awake and work to chop it back again.

When my children were younger, I wrote as the Family and Parenting Editor for The Examiner, an online news source. I enjoyed writing reviews, parenting tips, and interviews. My favorite interview was with Elizabeth Smart about stranger danger and home safety.

I have 13 books that I have created in the last year. Writing is a hobby that has really become a passion this last year.
