Teacher at heart
Educating children is what I was born to do. Nurturing, helping, teaching- I love it all. When did it all start? Well, I remember playing teacher as a child. If I couldn’t get my neighborhood friends to be the class of students, I would line my stuffed animals up for circle time.
Then I started working as a mother’s helper, then babysitter, then nanny. I worked at summer camps, Vacation Bible Schools, and preschools. I went off to college trying to decide between Psychology and Elementary Education as majors. I was so interested in both topics, that ended up with two degrees.
I went on to teach 2nd and 5th grades at a Jewish Day School. When I had children of my own, I created a “Playschool”, where other toddlers would join us in our home for educational enrichment. I taught at my children’s preschool and then at their elementary school. I entered the virtual teaching world as a Virtual Instructor for Elementary children with Imagine Learning. I then took a position with Georgia Connections Academy as an Elementary Reading Interventionist with their MTSS program. I would still be there, but we recently moved to sunny Fort Myers, Florida! I miss working with my students, but I am enjoying this time to dive back into my writing.
Teaching and learning are two huge parts of who I am.
